Halloween In Willamette Trick or Treating and Business Pumpkin Decorating Contest
We have a lot of new businesses in the district this year and we wanted to take a minute to let everyone know what goes on for Halloween in our area and how you can participate. In years past, we have had 3-400 children come Trick or Treating in our Downtown. Last year we had approximately 1300 children participate! We don’t know that we will have that many come this year as the holiday falls on a Monday, but you never know….
Historic Willamette Main Street organizes Halloween In Willamette (October 31st 3pm-6pm), posters will be going out this week and there has been a Facebook event posted for over a month already.
We will have a scavenger hunt for kids to participate in that takes them around the entire district including 8th Avenue and 8th Court, a photo booth, the mayor and her family will be handing out candy for the kids and last but not least there is a contest to choose the best decorated pumpkin by one of our local businesses. There are also have a few organizations that coordinate with us and provide snacks or activities for the children, such as NW Contexture Church. One of our area businesses is considering creating a haunted house, but hasn’t confirmed yet.
Most ground level, storefront businesses hand out candy or other goodies to the kids, either outside their front doors or put up a sign to direct people inside. If you have a business that does not have a ground level space, but would like to participate, please reach out to the other businesses in those spaces and coordinate putting up a table to do so. If you need another location, reach out to our Executive Director and she will find you a location.
For those wishing to participate in the Business Decorating Contest, we will provide you with a pumpkin and you can decorate it in any way you wish. Some people carve theirs, others paint them and still others add fun items. This year’s theme will be chosen by the winner of last year’s contest, The Willamette Garage. We’ll provide that information when we deliver the pumpkins. If you would like to participate, fill out the information at this link and someone from our Promotions Committee will get you a pumpkin and be in touch.
